Large icebergs, Arctic sorroundings, summer sun. Enjoy the pleasure of summer kayak paddling at the feet of the Svartisen glacier, the second largest in Norway. You don’t have to go to Svalbard to experience icebergs floating around and the windchill blowing down from the impressive blue icefronts of the glacier. A new world awaits just a half an hour ride from Glomfjord. The real Arctic Norway has never been so close!
Large icebergs, Arctic sorroundings, summer sun. Enjoy the pleasure of summer kayak paddling at the feet of the Svartisen glacier, the second biggest in Norway. You don’t have to go to Svalbard to experience icebergs floating around you and winchill blowing down from among the impressive blue ice front of the glacier. A new world awaits just a half an hour ride from Ørnes. The real Arctic Norway has never been so close!
A rare diamond lies hidden in Meloy. Few really knows about this, but during the spring/summer there are huge icebergs drifting around in the Arctic water of the Storglomvatnet lake, at the feet of the Svartisen glacier. The rock formations in the mountains remind us that we will be paddling where Svartisen once also lay, hundreds of years ago. The mountain is composed of limestone and marble, so therefore you can clearly see how the ice age and water have worked the mountainside. In June and July, the midnight sun reigns supreme, so it’s daylight all the time. Maybe we’ll even see reindeers graze around the water. On this adventure, if the iceberg shape is perfect, you might get a photo of your self standing on top of a floating iceberg in a safe way!
Description
We meet up at the Storglomvatnet lake. We take the kayaks into the water and paddle along 3 major lateral parts of the glacier that go right down to the lake. We also go in the midst of the icebergs that calved off the glacier’s ice front. However, we will make sure to keep some safe distance, as the glacier is in constant movement. Huge chunks of ice can fall off of it and the icebergs can roll over almost instantly.
Safety
At Beyondlimits, we always focus on safety during our trips. The trip is led by experienced and knowledgeable local guides. We provide first aid kit, navigational aids, and safety equipment.
